Twenty: SOPA and PIPA

As I opened my WordPress account, I noticed two new items in the “From our Blog” space found at the bottom right part of the page.

The first one was about Read All Your Favorite Blogs in One Place. I clicked on the link and read through the article.

The second items caught me more: Join our Censorship Protest! I read through the feature and was astounded by its content. So this explains why the Freshly Pressed items were blackened and censored about two days ago,  I thought to myself.

You see, about two days ago, I was already freaking out trying to figure out why my monitor revealed thickly coaled lines instead of the featured blogs in the Freshly Pressed menu. I thought my PC was hit by a virus. I likewise thought that my blog account was momentarily and surreptitiously chosen by the people behind WordPress to have such a sight. Then, I thought maybe, there was a glitch in the WordPress program. All that I thought of were wrong.

The article enlightened me about the current bills being passed by the brilliant legislators of the United States of America intended to censor internet press freedom. I’m no American. But I do understand that websites and web engines are mostly from the United States. Mind you, these sites and engines cater to no less than the WORLD. The internet doesn’t have the label worldwideweb for nothing, right? (www = worldwideweb)

Why now? Now that I’m more immersed into blogging and virtual content than ever??

So I joined in the protest. Two days late, I know. But I still joined in the protest. Notice that black ribbon by the upper right hand portion of my blog? That’s my part in joining the protest. It says “Stop Censorship.” And it’ll be posted right there until the 24th.

If you wish to understand the twins SOPA and PIPA better, kindly watch this quick video here:

Censoring the internet is censoring creativity.

I remain.

P.S. I’ve been amiss of the news about new developments in WordPress so  decided to hit the Follow button of In the News.
