Four: Regular EE

1.4.12

Today is my 6th month on the job. Hoooray!

As such, I am a regular employee. Double hooray!!

Going down memory lane, I submitted my resume around November of 2010 — two months after I took the exam. I was a real bum. My last official job officially ended May of 2009. After which, all I did was eat, sleep, and eat some more. I grew twice my size (and up to now, I’m battling the bulge and trying to get back in shape). Apart from eating and sleeping, I discovered blogging.

Now, back to my story, I received an SMS around June of 2011 asking me if I was still interested with the post. Around that time, I was again ‘distributing’ my updated resume to offices, public and private companies. So the SMS was a welcome development on my part.

I was really happy to have received such invite to come for an initial interview. I prayed a Thank You for the blessing. The day of the initial interview came. It was more like an orientation. I was introduced to the outgoing employee. She was to take the exam, too so there a was a dire need for a replacement. I was first to be scheduled. There were three (3) others who were interviewed after me. After the initial interview, I was told to wait for a call for the final interview.

So I waited for another call. And it came. I was asked to report to the office for the supposed final interview. I came a few minutes after 1pm while the sun was blaringly hot. I entered the office lobby full of sweat and was fanning myself like crazy. Good thing, the kind and good-looking information desk officer turned on the aircon and the oscillating fan. I was able to heave a sigh of relief.

The next thing I knew, my name was called to go upstairs where the Human Resources Office was. So, I came face to face with the HR Director who gave me questions. I was a bit uneasy since I was wearing my aqua blue long-sleeved blouse and the aircon was busted. I gave frank answers to her questions. I told myself that I gave proper and honest answers to her questions and there was nothing more I could do but wait again and see if I was hired.

A week passed and I received no SMS. I blew it! I told myself. Oh well, maybe it wasn’t meant for me.

Then another day passed and I received another call telling to come for an appointed interview. My heart was pounding. Another interview. This time with the President of the company.

The interview was scheduled at 10 in the morning. That same morning, I had a bout of vertigo. The moment I opened my eyes, everything else was whirling around me. Oh no! Not today please. I tried going back to sleep to no avail. I got up and drank several glasses of water. I threw up. I was like mad! What was even maddening was the fact that I was up for an interview in a couple of hours! I was panicking already. The more I panicked, the more I threw up.

But lo and behold! Just as I was about to reach for my towel, my phone blinked for an SMS. It said that the interview was reset to 3 that afternoon. I sighed a Thank You again. At least I could still rest and recharge. I ate first then went back to sleep.

I woke up feeling much better. I prepped up and got ready to leave the house. I hailed a tricycle which brought me to the warehouse/ office. I inquired from the guard on duty if I was at the right place. He said I was at the WRONG place. The office referred to in the SMS was at the other side of the warehouse. Good grief! It’s almost 3 and I’m still here.

So I hurriedly hailed another trike and got down at the Industrial Subdivision’s entrance. I took hold of my bag and umbrella as a habal habal took me to the building. And I was wide-eyed: the complex was filled with really big trucks and even bigger warehouses. There were ‘plant’ people everywhere.

I inquired from the security guard on duty where the office of The Boss was. It’s upstairs. (Yes, nage-English si Manong. Hahaha). So I went up the iron ladder and the sound of my heels went clunk clunk clunk with every step I took. I had to catch my breathe the moment I reached the uppermost step. The ladder was kinda steep and well, I was out of exercise. My heart was thumping really hard. Hahaha. I went through the glass door and took my seat in the row of colorful seats. This place is like an airport lounge. Haha.

A few minutes later, two gentlemen came. I suppose they were to be interviewed, too. Then I saw the HR come in who proceeded straight into one of the glazed glass doors.

One by one, we went into The Boss’ room. Questions. Answers. The interview went well, I suppose. But I was not as confident. I sheepishly gave answers and I knew The Boss was not satisfied. Whatever. If the job was for me, it will be given to me. If it ain’t, I’ll find another one.

Several days passed, and no news about the interview. I was back in my eat, sleep, eat more routine in no time. Haha.

Then the angels descended from the heavens. I was asked to report back to be given the list of requirements. OMG! Was I hired? I replied with a ‘Yes, Ma’am. Sure Ma’am. Smiley.’ I had to iron a blouse and a pair of slacks again, and brush my leather shoes a shiny black.

I was given a list of requirements to comply with and they gave me two (2) days to accomplish all. I had to shell out a few hundred bills so that I could pay up fees here and there. In two days, I submitted my requirements. I came back and signed some papers and the rest, as they say, is history…

I am now on my sixth (6th) month on the job. It is immensely teaching me a lot of things. And I am grateful to the Omnipotent One for the Gift of Labor.

I remain.
